After yet another ugly loss by the Seahawks yesterday, I thought it would be timely to check in on how the team is doing statistic-wise stacked up against the rest of the NFL. Are things really as bad as they have looked?
While doing so I figured out the key to the team’s struggles this season: It is terrible at scoring points (24th), giving up points (26th), defending the pass (30th) and rushing the ball (28th).
| Rushing defense (yards) | Passing defense | Rushing offense | Passing offense | Total offense (points) | Total defense |
| 14th (109.5) | 30th (250.4) | 28th (95.1) | 13th (238.4) | 24th (17.8) | 26th (24.9) |
As has been obvious for a while, this team has serious issues. Injuries have played a big role (offensive line, Lofa Tatupu, Marcus Trufant, etc.) but the Seahawks seem to play with no confidence. If they’re behind, they stay behind. And if they’re ahead… well, they haven’t been ahead for a while.
The good news is this team is more talented than it has looked in the past three losses (while being outscored 106-24). This isn’t a complete rebuild, but there is plenty of work to do in the offseason.
