Some clarity for basketball playoff scenarios

January 27th, 2011 at 4:47 pm by Adam McFadden
  • Comments

There’s quite a bit of confusion about how the Seamount’s new 3A/2A split will change playoff allocations. Here’s an attempt to clear things up:

2A

Seamount teams: Renton, Lindbergh, Evergreen, Foster and Tyee, plus Interlake out of the KingCo 3A/2A

Breakdown: There are five sub-district spots for these six teams. That means Lindbergh and Renton (both boys and girls teams) are all safely in.

Next level: The top two seeds carry a big advantage into the postseason. Those teams enter into a double-elimination portion of sub-districts and have already clinched a spot in districts. All other seeds will need to win two games in a row to make districts.

3A

Seamount teams: Hazen, Kennedy Catholic and Highline, plus Bremerton out of the Olympic 3A/2A/1A

Breakdown: There are three sub-district spots for four teams. Locally, the Hazen boys and girls teams are both in.

Next level: The top two seeds are both moving on to districts. The top seed gets a bonus since that team’s worst case scenario is third district seed, and that would only happen if it lost two both sub-district games.
The third seed must win its first game to advance to districts.

Bremerton: Seamount 3A teams and Bremerton get one point for wins over 1A and 2A opponents and 1.5 points for wins against 3A and 4A opponents. Points are totaled, then divided by the number of games to determine seeding.
