At last night’s RTC meeting…

October 14th, 2009 at Wed, 14th, 2009 at 1:40 pm by Celeste Gracey

The most unusual aspect as last night’s Renton Technical College Board of Trustee meeting was it was business as usual.
It was interim president Steve Hanson’s first meeting with the board since his hiring this September, and I was led to the believe there would be some discussion of expectations and goals for the year.
Though there was a detailed report on the school’s strategic plan for instruction, goal setting was not a topic of conversation for Hanson and the trustees.
Nothing was voted upon in the meeting, and Rich Zwicker did not attend.
The meeting highlights include a notice that the board will select a search firm for the new president in the next few weeks.
The board is also putting together a climate survey for November to get an idea about how faculty and staff are feeling about school administration. The last survey was taken 4 years ago.
The college also received seven defibrillators, which will be distributed around campus.

Do we know when there will be a full board of trustees at RTC? With Mr. Zwicker's absence, only 3 board members were in attendance, making it difficult for any decisions to be made or to have a full discussion around any issues that may be presented.

A quorom is reached with three trustees, but there wasn't much to be voted on during October's meeting, just some meeting minutes.
Right now, the board only has four of its five trustees. The governor's office has yet to announce a fifth, but I'll give them a call and see how things are progressing.
